This article describes and theoretically characterizes the professional treatment of data journalism, fact checking and verification as a professional procedure. In this section, the treatment of journalistic information will be characterized. The theoretical approach will be contrasted with a descriptive analysis in two steps: a systematization of the history and philosophy of Cotejo.info and the characterization and exemplification of the professional methodology used in this media, which was the first fact checking media in Venezuela. Cotejo.info was founded in the city of Barquisimeto in June 2016 as an initiative of the Civil Association Medianálisis; it is a project that arose from the recognition of the manifest attitude of Venezuelans to require greater diversity of visions and informative consistency, based on the verification of public discourse. It ends with the characterization of the methodology used in this media, which is a Venezuelan adaptation of the 7 key steps of the scheme used in Chequeado. The paper will present the adjustments and adaptations made by Cotejo.info and will describe and exemplify the work methodology.
